My boy… He’s the most sensitive yet smartest and creative kid I know at 7 yrs old. He’s a giant. As in BIG for a 7 yr old. Wears 11 yr old clothes. But because most of the kids in his class are smaller build, he’s subject of ridicule a lot for his size. For the record, my son is not fat. He’s just not a small kid. I say all this because a lot of days (including today) he comes home with his lunch box still full with an untouched lunch that I made him. It’s not because he doesn’t like food or the way I make it. It’s because he’s afraid of getting teased again for eating it. This seems really shitty to have to worry about 1st graders being like the movie “Mean Girls”, but I guess it’s a different world that we live in compared to the times of my youth. No one knows the damage this shit can do to a brain at a young age. Fuck, I wrestled with weight issues my entire life and I had a famous music producer tell me when I was 20, to never wear white because I was fat. I still throw up in my mouth a little bit when I think about this shit being said to people. But whatever. People can say “life’s tough.. Wear a helmet..” But not at 7. It’s the last little bit of innocence they have. Teach your kids that even THEY aren’t perfect, so judging other kids is NOT COOL.
